Members of the Singsations are children in grades 3 through 6 who are instructed in liturgical music. Membership is open not only to students of Our Lady of Good Counsel School but to any child in the parish. Choir members are formed in music and liturgy, helping them to understand the integral part that private and liturgical prayer plays in our lives. Rehearsals are held on Monday and Wednesday from 2:45–3:45 PM in the Junior High building (the former church).
The Counsellor’s Youth Chorale is also a parish-wide ensemble. At this level there is an increased emphasis on vocal technique, and choir members develop more advanced reading skills. Solo and small ensemble singing is emphasized, and many aspects of theatrical performance are employed. Foreign languages and generally more complex literature are employed by the chorale. Participation in concert tours and choir competitions are included when deemed appropriate.
We also have a graded system of Youth Bell Choirs for children in grades 4 through 8. Rehearsals for the grade school–level choirs are scheduled after the end of the school day. The choirs play at various school and weekend liturgies throughout the year. Auditions are held at the beginning of each school year.
